External wall insulation

EWI_1External Wall Insulation (EWI) is used to insulate solid wall properties. It is installed externally and creates an insulated layer that is windproof and watertight. The surface is a protective render with decorative finish that improves the building’s appearance.

Why insulate?

Solid walls let twice as much heat escape than cavity walls, and EWI is one of the most cost effective measures for improving thermal efficiency in the home. Typically up to 45% of heat is lost through un-insulated solid walls (Source: National Insulation Association, 2014). Properties with external solid wall insulation, when heated, become warmer much quicker – and in the summer it keeps the heat out too. The Energy Saving Trust estimates solid wall insulation can cut fuel bills by up to £455 per year.

How does EWI work?

Our Knauf ThermoShell EWI system is designed to meet the specific needs of your property. It has BBA certification and is ideal for upgrading the thermal performance of your home while improving the external appearance. Insulation EPS boards are securely fixed onto the property and then a protective render with decorative finish is applied. Once completed our system will leave a weather proof finish that protects your home from the elements. All our EWI installers have completed a rigorous manufacturer training programme so that the system is always installed correctly and consistently.
